A New Low?

So now not only do I buy wine* only if it is in the "2 for 1 special" section at Tesco.

Tobie busted me buying chicken breasts** at the convenience store today.

I told him it wasn't so bad.

When I was in University (round 1) 10 years ago my best friend Keith and I used to use the FasGas card that his parents gave him to stock up on Michelenas tv dinners, the odd scratch 'n' win, and probably a pack or two of Craven A's.

Shopping at a gas station using a credit card that is only supposed to be used to buy GAS is lower than buying chicken at the Res convenience store, right? Right?

This whole student thing is really only for the early twenties.

*Ok, so I lied in my bio. I only stay hella away from really cheap red wine.

**I normally buy free-range chook from the local farmer who comes to our Farmers Market every Tuesday so relax people.

I lived on ramen noodles and Kraft Mac & Cheese in medical school.

They last forever, unrefrigerated. And are cheap.

It seems cruel though sometimes when you're used to the simple pleasures that beautiful food holds.

I lived on Mac in "Round 1" as well.

Couldn't do it now. The only soul watering I get these days is at the Market. My two hours of inspiration weekly.

You are living abroad and without a vehicle, right?

...I think you get a pass on this one. You actually make me feel a little guilty when you post about the food you make anyway.

I'm with RH. I was congratulating myself on buying like 10 of my favorite microwave Chinese food dinner things on sale when I ran into one of my classmates. Well I didn't actually run into them, more like ran away when I saw all the fresh veg in their cart versus my frozen dinners, trail mix and popsicles. I think you're doing just fine.

RH--Yes! No car and abroad. :)

Ok good, I feel less guilty now. Hahah, cooking slow food is just another procrastination strategy for me, so ramen et al wouldn't work as well in that department!

Ninja--Hilarious. Oh, trailmix isn't so bad! :) There is dried fruit and protein bits in there right?

Free range? Sheesh. I don't even know where you could get that around where I live -- with or without a car.

You get a pass.

LOL - Oh ABB - those were the days... My dad still doesn't trust me with his gas card!!! LOL

Be prepared for London on the cheap! I wish I could spoil you when you're here, but life is hard. Fortunately, I stocked up on KD when I was in Canada. LOL!!!

We can have organic bromley apple veggie sausage in our Mac n Cheese.

:P

Does anybody else remember the whole buy-everything-on-daddy's-gas-card concept from 'Reality Bites'?

Hadlington- Yeah, I thought of that exact scene when I first read this, too. Winona Ryder and her friends buying out the gas station's convenience store.

Had & Grump--I had completely forgotten about that, it's been ages since I saw that movie--though Tobie and I were musing on watching it the other day.

Instead we watched Big Lebowski for the 457th time. And naturally, we were not disappointed.

OMDG--Ha! Thanks for the pass.

Keet--What no endangered caviar and Champagne at a table next to Joan Rivers this weekend? That's it. I'm not coming.

Actually, I was thinking *I'd* cook us some sweet eats. I made a wild mushroom and arugula risotto for the first time last night and Tobie fell in love with me again, for the first time. Turns out I can nail risotto (and am humble too).
